In 1924, the District Public Relations Office was created under Public Health Division to make people aware about health and sanitation in 1924. Under this department, the department started its activities in the Writers' Building in Calcutta under Publicity Department. Public Relations Directorate was formed in 1947 under the Ministry of Information and Radio, Field Publicity and News and Film Section. In 1968, the rank of a District Public Relations Officer was created in each district by increasing its work scope. In order to inspire and engage the development activities by making people aware at the grassroots level of independence, Bangladesh Parishad BMR and Women's wing was formed in 1972.
